Five-time world swimming champion Miron Lifintsev admitted that the organizers’ ban on athletes communicating with the media at the World Short Course Championships in Budapest only played into his hands.

“I was more pleased that after the start they didn’t take interviews – they just showed you, you waved and left. There was no need to give interviews and talk to everyone – you just silently did your job and left. I think this played into my hands,” the Public News Service quotes him as saying, citing TASS.

Earlier, the athlete said that the Russians were forbidden to celebrate their victories in a bright way, of which they ended up with six.

In total, the Russian team won six gold and four silver medals at the World Short Course Championships in Budapest. Thus, the team repeated its medal record at the World Championships in China in 2018.

As a result, the Russian team came in second in the medal count, behind only the United States. Let us recall that the Russians performed in a neutral status.
